Can be controlled from anywhere with an iPhone!
-
Yes, a mere computer can control it, also.
-
Once programmed, a computer is not necessary.
Have you ever wished you could manage the resources that your home uses more effectively? Have you been in a lounge chair on vacation somewhere and realized you needed to adjust the irrigation? Could you use the simplicity of controlling it all from virtually any java enabled, internet connected browser - even an iPhone? Undoubtedly, your answer is "Yes."
We have put together the Orch-ISY-RM-IRR Remote Access Irrigation Automation Kit with you in mind. Now you can easily install, setup and enjoy the peace of mind and resource savings that home automation offers in one affordable, reliable and exciting kit. This powerful remote access kit includes:
-
ISY-99i series internet capable controller w/ PLM
-
A pair of Insteon phase coupling access points
-
8 button Insteon Keypadlinc Valve or Program Selector
-
SimpleHomeNet EZFlora 8 zone irrigation valve controller
This kit revolves around the Universal Devices ISY-99i series Home Automation Controller. It connects to your home network and the Insteon power line modem with just a couple of cat 5 cables (included). Once connected, your computer running Windows (yes! Vista, too), Mac or Linux operating system will recognize the ISY-99i as a network device and allow you to access it. This is the beauty of the system. There is no software to install. When connected you are communicating directly with the controller through your java enabled browser and a simple GUI (graphic user interface). By design, this allows connecting from any java enabled browser remotely without having to install a program.
The ISY allows for full control of your irrigation valves, program creation and management and much more. If you are concerned about setting up the ISY-99i in your home, don't be. Although a compatible router is required, we plugged it in and tested it on our 6 year old router and connected through Windows Vista and an iPhone before we ever put this kit together for our customers. Remote access can be disabled, however if not needed and security is provided by SSL certificate encryption provided by Universal Devices and configurable right within the application.
In addition to the ability to link, control and manage all your Insteon devices, the ISY-99i allows for complex (if, then, else) type programming of Valves, Scenes, Programs, etc. For example creating a program to link each button of the keypad to a valve run of 5 minutes is easily programmed like this:
If :
Keypad Button 1 On
Then:
Turn (Scene with Valve 1 and Keypad Button 1) On
wait 5 minutes
Turn (Scene with Valve 1 and Keypad Button 1) Off
Else:
Turn Valve 1 Off
Just Repeat for each button on the keypad to have simple access to your valves from a convenient location in your house! This is just the beginning of what the ISY-99i can do. For more information, consult the ISY
User's Manual.
After connecting the ISY-99i Home Automation Controller and installing the access points, keypad and EZFlora, you have established a complete Insteon network in your home. You will quickly learn how to link the EZFlora and program its operation with the easy to use graphic interface. Once you're up to speed and connecting to your irrigation valves from a Java enabled browser of your choice, we're sure you'll want to add to your automation.
Here's how it goes: Just add the perfect mix of Insteon dimmers, switches, keypads, touch screens, etc. and Insteon compatible thermostats, motion sensors and more. Look through the categories on our site for ideas. Referencing the included instructions for each device, install them at the controlling locations. Following the instructions included with the devices to be linked and paying particular attention to how the devices go into linking mode (usually by holding the switch or a button for 10 seconds), link all modules to the ISY-99i. Then rename for convenience, configure and program all your devices and scenes in the ISY-99i application. Enjoy beautiful, sophisticated home control by interacting with the ISY-99i IR through elegant decora style dimmers, switches or touch screens or from your sofa with an RF remote or virtually any universal IR remote control. Relax while away knowing that you can adjust all your linked devices and scenes from any java enabled internet browser on a computer or cell phone.
The automation possibilities are limited only by your imagination. Hundreds of Insteon and Insteon compatible devices are available and can be added to your project and controlled with the ISY-99i Home Automation Controller.
We are here to help you with your Home Automation Project. If you have any questions regarding the application or function of any of devices in this kit or on our site, you may give us a call or ask the
Maestro for a quick email or telephone response.
Happy Automating!
ISY Model:
There are two decisions you need to make when choosing a model. You must ask yourself if you would like to add IR communication capabilities to the ISY. This would allow you have ISY respond to your audio / visual remote control. The IR sensor is on the unit. Consider if you will be locating the ISY-99i where it can "see" IR commands. If you do not desire IR control or you will be locating the ISY outside of IR reception, then do not choose the IR model. IR Insteon control can be added later by adding and Insteon IRLinc receiver at the desired IR reception location. You must also ask yourself how large of an installation you anticipate having. The pro model offers support for up to 1056 devices, scenes and programs while the standard model supports 256. Please note that requirements vary significantly. We recommend purchasing the PRO model if you plan on having over 30 Insteon devices installed. This allows you plenty of programming capability per device. If you will have less that 30 Insteon devices, then stick with the standard model. Our Orchestrated MobiLinc application can create upwards of 5 - 10 programs per device when used to its full capabilities.
Add-On Modules:
The Weatherbug module allows ISY to evaluate weather phenomena in your area and can be used to adjust irrigation systems or other automated systems that need to be aware of the ambient weather conditions. This module can be a great resource saver and also provides the ability to see the local weather via your internet connected device such as an iPhone. The Brultech energy meter module is used to evaluate energy usage as reported by a Brultech energy meter which can be installed near your meter. Awareness of energy consumption and the rate that is being charged for that usage can create a great opportunity for savings.
The X10 BETA module offers support for A10/X10 devices incorporated into the device tree and managed through the Admin Console' Main tab rather than the Program's tab. Users attempting to utilize their existing X10 devices while adding new Insteon capabilities will appreciate this add-on. The Network module allows users to use their ISY as a web server to serve up your own applications, pictures, and files. The module also inculdes Wake On Lan (turn your computers on using ISY progrmas) and Network Resources which enable you to call any network resource (TCP/UDP/HTTP/HTTPS).
PLM Choice:
The standard PLM is the EZIComm Insteon PLM. It plugs into your ISY-99i via an ethernet cable and allows the Insteon signals to flow to the power line. For installations with power line communication challenges, using a dual band PLM such as the Insteon 2413S allows the Insteon signal to simultaneously be transmitted over the power line and via RF. Most installations operate normally without a dual band PLM.
Access Point Solutions:
The standard access points are plug in modules that are simply plugged in at a few locations in your home. A setup procedure is provided that helps you place one access point on each of your home's electrical phases. Once properly set up, access points allow Insteon signals to move along the power line throughout your house. These access points also have RF capability and send and receive Insteon RF signals for Insteon RF only devices and also as an augmentation to power line signals. Upgrading to Dual Band Access Points provides you with a LampLinc plug-in lamp module and access point in one unit. Or restated, the access points double as LampLincs. Choose the dual band LampLinc access points if you want a slightly smaller footprint of the plug-in device and you want the ability to control a plug-in lamp at this location as well.
