This kit requires cat 5 cables running from your home's router or switch to each touch screen and also to the ISY 99i IR. Many newer homes are cat 5 wired for your convenience.
If your home does not have cat 5 wiring and/or you would prefer a kit that does not require you to locate cat 5 wiring as part of the installation, please see our Resource Manager RM10 kit, which does not require additional cat 5 wiring.
This kit revolves around the Universal Devices ISY-99i IR Home Automation Controller. It connects to your home network and the Insteon power line modem with just a couple of cat 5 cables (included). If locating the ISY away from your network router, you will need to have a cat 5 cable from your network router or switch to the location of the ISY. Once connected, your computer running Windows (yes! Vista, too), Mac or Linux operating system will recognize the ISY-99i as a network device and allow you to access it. This is the beauty of the system. There is no software to install. When connected you are communicating directly with the controller through your java enabled browser and a simple GUI (graphic user interface). By design, this allows connecting from any java enabled browser remotely without having to install a program.
The ISY allows full control of your Insteon devices, scene creation and control, program creation and management and much more. If you are concerned about setting up the ISY-99i in your home, don't be. We plugged it in and tested it on our 6 year old router and connected through Windows Vista and an iPhone before we put this kit together for our customers. Remote access can be disabled, however if not needed and security is provided by SSL certificate encryption provided by Universal Devices and configurable right within the application.
In addition to the ability to link, control and manage all your Insteon devices, the ISY-99i allows for complex (if, then, else) type programming of Lights, Scenes, Programs, etc. For example creating energy saving automation like:
If :
BACK PATIO light on
and Time from Sunrise + 1 hour to Sunset - 1 hour
Then:
Turn BACK PATIO light off
is just the beginning of what the ISY-99i can do. For more information, consult the ISY
User's Manual.
This kit is our most advanced kit which includes a pair of compact IES in-wall touch screen scene selectors for a very sophisticated interaction with your Insteon lighting modules and scenes. These touch screens connect to your home automation through a PoE router or switch (switch available as an option) connected to your home network. PoE means power over the ethernet and allows the touch screen panels to communicate and be powered over a single cat 5 cable. Just run a cat 5 cable from your PoE network switch to each IES EasyTouch-p touch screen and your Insteon linked devices and scenes are presented automatically on these elegant touch screen panels. The panels mount easily in any two gang junction box. No AC power is required - just the cat 5 cable.
Here's how it goes: Referencing the included instructions for each device, install the dimmers, switches, appliance module, touch screens (via cat 5 and PoE), irrigation controller and thermostat at the controlling locations. Locate and install the ISY 99i IR and Insteon PLM near your television (or anywhere you might like IR control). Plug in the Insteon IRlinc receiver at a 2nd IR receiving location. Plug in the two Insteon access points. Following the instructions included with the devices to be linked and paying particular attention to how the devices go into linking mode (usually by holding the switch or a button for 10 seconds), link all your kit modules including the RF handheld remote to the ISY-99i. Then rename for convenience, configure and program all your devices and scenes in the ISY-99i application. Enjoy beautiful, sophisticated home control by interacting with the ISY-99i IR through elegant decora style dimmers, switches or touch screens or from your sofa with the included RF remote or virtually any universal IR remote control. Relax while away knowing that you can adjust all your linked devices and scenes from any java enabled internet browser on a computer or cell phone. Start saving on your water and energy consumption. That's it!
The automation possibilities are limited only by your imagination. Hundreds of Insteon and Insteon compatible devices are available and can be added to your project and controlled with the ISY-99i Home Automation Controller.
