Introducing Orchestrated MobiLinc
Orchestrated MobiLinc is a collaborative Apple application from Orchestrated Home and Mobile Integrated Solutions.
Orchestrated MobiLinc has all the features of MobiLinc Pro but adds a powerful feature set not available anywhere else in the market place that manages energy consumption. Now, ISY-99i users of firmware version 2.7.15 and higher can use this app to program the controller on the fly saving real dollars on their energy bill. The best part is that once the Insteon devices are installed, the control is managed intuitively from the user's iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. In this way, no programming expertise is required to manage the controller. Simply tell the app how the controller should manage energy and Orchestrated MobiLinc takes care of the rest writing conditional programs to the controller to effortlessly manage lighting and small appliance energy consumption.
Getting Started with Orchestrated MobiLinc
Orchestrated MobiLinc requires the Universal Devices ISY-99i controller with firmware updated to version 2.7.15 or higher. The controller plugs into your internet connected network router via an ethernet cable. The controller links to your Insteon and Insteon compatible dimmers, switches, sensors, thermostats, relays, etc. allowing access to all these devices and their many functions right from your fingertips when interfaced with the Orchestrated MobiLinc App.
Once setup on your network, remote, SSL encrypted and password protected access can be obtained so that the controller is accessible from home or while away. Orchestrated MobiLinc automatically finds and links to the controller when you lauch the app. No third party website is required to access your controller as it resides as a server on your network and your network alone.
The app presents the user with the screen to the left upon launch. Many user defined features are available. Below, we describe some of the available functions.
Remotely-Control Your Insteon Devices
Selecting "My Devices" will create a list of all linked Insteon modules. You may sort the list by device status, alphabetically or reverse alphabetically for your convenience. The list is populated with the current status of the devices. This allows something like an iPad or iPhone to act as a whole house WiFi remote for all your linked Insteon devices.
Fine Tuning Your Remote Control
Selecting an individual device allows the user to make adjustments. Note that Insteon dimmers allow for preset ramp ON and ramp OFF rates as well as preset ON levels. Using the FAST ON or FAST OFF commands override the ramp rates and change the dimmer status immediately to either ON or OFF. All of this control is available for all your Insteon devices from your family room sofa, remotely from your place of business or even while lounging by the pool on vacation at your favorite destination.
Set the Scene for Your Home
The ISY controller does so much more than remotely control lights and devices. It allows for sophisticated lighting and device scenes to be created. Once created, one press of a keypad or one selection on your iPhone will activate all the devices specified in the scene simultaneously. Orchestrated MobiLinc displays all your created scenes and allows for easy selection of all your devices at once. Examples of useful scenes could include SLEEP, DINNER, EVENING, AWAY, and VACATION. There is no limit to what you can create by grouping several devices into these scenes with varying brightness and status levels.
Fine Tuning Your Scene
Scenes are controlled much like individual devices allowing all the functionality the user would normally receive from an Insteon keypad right from their fingertips using Orchestrated MobiLinc.
Arrive to a Comfortable Temperature
One of our most popular solutions is the provision for accessing the user's thermostat either from another room or from across the country. Most of us would like to set the thermostat while we are away to an energy saving level, but then do not appreciate returning home to a temperature that is uncomfortable. Others would like to protect their vacation home from freezing temperatures or damaging heat. Now, simply from your iPhone, the user can monitor and adjust the temperature and arrive home to the desired comfort level.
Save Money and Energy with the Resource Manager
When you purchase Orchestrated MobiLinc, you receive all the above functionality with the addition of Resource Manager our brand new, intelligent, energy saving module. Now you can specify how your Insteon lighting and small appliances should behave once they have been turned on. Does somebody in the home always leave lights on? Would you like the fan to run to clear the humidity after a shower, but wish it would turn off automatically later if you forget. Does the porch light get left on after sunrise?
Now, when you select Resource Manager from the device's control page, you will be presented with the screen on the left. By default, your devices operate without any Resource Manager intelligent energy management. If you would like to add energy saving potential, simply slide the DAY and/or NIGHT controls to ON and proceed with the easy setup. Also notice that four custom timers are available per device or scene. The best part is that when you specifiy a timer, Resource Manager for that device is automatically suspended while the timer is carried out. Timers are monitored and controlled as described on the next screens.
Easily Change with the Seasons
Notice that once a timer is specified that it is easily referenced on the device control page. For example, you can see that the Front Porch light will operate from 45 minutes after sunset until 35 minutes before sunrise the next day. The ISY-99i controller automatically keeps track of sunrise and sunset times as well as daylight savings time for your area. In this way, you can very actively control your energy consumption to match the seasonal ambient lighting changes.
Customize Your Timers
This page shows the custom timer being constructed from an iPhone. Notice that in addition to specifying times that reference sunrise and sunset, you may also specify specific fixed times and also allow timers to start at a predetermined time and stop after a selected period of time.
Fine Tuning Your Resource Manager
In this example, the user has selected Resource Manager to manage a a bedroom light's energy consumption during the day. If this bedroom light is left on during the day for more than 15 minutes, then the light is dimmed to a selected 70% as a notice that it is about to automatically turn off. Then a selected two minute period would elapse allowing the user to intervene if they happen to still be needing this light. Finally, the light is turned off. In this example, this bedroom light would never be on for more than 17 minutes at one time during the day.
Resource Manager is even smarter, though. If the user would like to override this function, he or she can simply double tap the dimmer to ON, placing the light on full bright and automatically disabling further Resource Manager function until the light is once again selected ON. Also, if the user double taps OFF on the dimmer, Resource Manager is disabled for two hours for this device.
If the average homeowner installs the Orchestrated MobiLinc system and uses Resource Manager for 10 frequently left on lights, The energy savings over a year can pay for the application. Larger homes with higher energy consumption can save even more putting the user on a path to a permanent reduction in energy consumption for their home.
The Difference Is Night and Day
Resource Manager knows that lights that you may want to manage during the day, may need to be managed differently during the evening.
Resource Manager allows the user to specify different time intervals during night hours. A light left on for 15 minutes during the day might need to be turned off automatically, but the same light might require several hours during the evening before it can be assumed that is has been left on unintentionally.
Dimmers also provide a warning dim level as an indication that Resource Manager is about to turn off the lights to save energy. Then a timer allows the user to reset the lights by tapping the switch to restart Resource Manager from the beginning. As always, double tapping the dimmer to ON or OFF will disable Resource Manager for this device until the dimmer is reselected to ON. (Double tap OFF disables system for two hours)
Even more control of night or low ambient light situatiions is provided by adding an occupancy sensor to the room as seen in the next screen shot.
Controlling Your Insteon Motion Sensors
Insteon motion sensors are an inexpensive way to add even more intelligence to your frequently used rooms. Walk into a room at night and be warmly greeted automatically with light.
Resource Manager can easily be configured to allow motion in a room to be used to intelligently manage energy consumption. By selecting MOTION ACTIVATION, your Insteon motion sensor will turn on your lights and then reset the timer on Resource Manager every time motion is sensed in the room at night and during low ambient light conditions.
For example, the homeowner may have six ceiling lighting cans in the kitchen and recognizes that leaving these lights on unattended wastes significant energy. It is also obvious that putting kitchen lights strictly on a timer would make for an annoyance to the chef. By adding a motion sensor to the kitchen, the lights can be programmed to automatically turn off after 45 minutes if no motion has been detected. As long as the kitchen is occupied, Resource Manager will effectively wait to start its countdown. This added intelligence is being carried out behind the scenes and requires no user interaction.
Set It and Let the Resource Manager Take It from There

Be Warned When Devices Are about to Time Out
Many user configurable settings are available and are too numerous to describe on this page.
In this example, it is noted that since switches cannot warn the user by dimming the attached device that the lights are about to time out, a warning beep can be selected for compatible Insteon switches (relays). If your device is controlled by a switch, then after a user selected period, you would hear a short beep if desired before the light, scene or device is automatically turned off in a selected two minute time frame.
